A pair of U.S. Marines were seriously burned in an explosion while working on a fighter jet in California, officials said Monday.
The blast injured the service members on the tarmac at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday, said Major Kurt Stahl, a spokesman for the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
Both Marines were rushed to UC-San Diego Regional Burn Center for treatment, according to a statement.
Stahl said the duo belong to a reserve squadron based in Fort Worth, Texas. The injured service members were not immediately identified.
The F/A-18 Hornet was damaged during the explosion and its cause was not known.
