The Levant News Exclusive — Sources in the Palestinian Authority claim that President of Tunisia El Beji Caid Essebsi will pay an official visit to Ramallah. President Essebsi is planned to travel to the PA after his visit to Jordan on 20-21 October. According to our sources, Azzam Al Ahmad, official envoy of PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, traveled to Tunisia early this month to coordinate President Essebsi’s visit with the Tunisian Foreign Monister. The meeting between the Tunisian President and the PA Chairman will focus on PA effort to promote the Palestinian problem on the agenda of the Arab world, as well as enlist the Arab states’ support for Palestinian policies in the international community. Essebsi and Abbas will also allegedly discuss the recent developments in the region, and particularly Israeli activity in the occupied territories. Abbas will also survey the Palestinian security forces’ effort to control their territory. Finally, Abbas will ask the Tunisian President for aid in promoting reconciliation with Hamas. This is an historic inaugural visit to Ramallah by an Arab president. Previously, a delegation from Qatar headed by Emir Hamad Bin Khalifa had traveled to the Gaza Strip in October 2012 and met with senior Hamas officials.
