Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, Sheikh Saleh bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Department of Industry and Economy in Fujairah, today launched the “7th Fujairah International Mining Forum,” at the Blue Diamond Hotel in Fujairah.
The three-day forum was organised by the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, FNRC, in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Industry and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organisation, AIDMO, under the theme, “Emirates the Land of Tolerance,” with the participation of over 450 specialists and experts from 20 Arab and international countries.
The launch was attended by Sheikh Eng. Mohammed bin Hamad bin Saif Al Sharqi, Chairman of the E-Government Department of Fujairah, Eng. Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Industry, Eng. Mohammed Saif Al Afkham, Chairman of the FNRC, and Eng. Ali Qassim, Director-General of the FNRC.
Sheikh Saleh highlighted the forum’s importance to achieving the sustainable development of the mining sector, as it is a platform for exchanging expertise and modern technologies, and encouraging the appropriate use of renewable energy sources, innovation and mineral resources.
He also expressed his hope that its sessions and discussions will enable its participants to review the latest developments in managing and improving energy efficiency in the mining sector.
Dr. Al Neyadi highlighted the key role of the mining sector in the Arab region, as well as the importance of exchanging expertise, promoting investments in the sector, and adopting legislation that will encourage sustainable growth while pointing out that the forum has become a leading event for the mining sector in the region.
He also noted that the UAE is working, through the Ministry of Energy and Industry, in cooperation with relevant federal and local authorities, to support and encourage investments in the mining sector while highlighting the ministry’s recent mining-related initiatives and projects.
Adel Al Saqr, Director-General of the AIDMO, called on the forum’s participants to support innovation and creativity and keep pace with the developments of the fourth industrial revolution, to achieve sustainable development in the mining sector and limit the environmental impact resulting from mining activities.
The forum will discuss 44 work papers, and its first day included discussions on the role of innovative and transformative mining industries in raising the added value.
The Forum is held with a view to promote and develop Arab and foreign investments in the mining sector, support the creation of jobs, encourage the use of renewable energy sources in the mining and industrial sectors, transfer modern mining technologies, achieve sustainable development through the recycling of mineral waste to create new industries, and update mining investment laws and legislations.
