Iran deplores UN silence on Israeli Gaza onslaught

The Iranian president has strongly censured the UN Security Council for its continued silence in the face of the Israeli regime’s brutal onslaught against the Palestinian people in the besieged Gaza Strip.

“We should all do something to make the Zionist regime  understand that the Muslim world and regional countries back the Palestinian people and have not left them alone, said President Hassan Rouhani in a telephone conversation with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday.

“This brutal regime,” he added, “should know that it will receive the necessary response for the crimes it is committing.”

“Unfortunately, the United Nations Security Council has, so far, taken no action in this regard, and we should all ask it to play an active role in this respect,” the Iranian president added.

He voiced serious concern over the spread of insecurity in the Middle East, particularly in the Gaza Strip, Syria and Iraq, expressing Tehran’s readiness to cooperate to help establish security and stability and stop the killing of Muslims in the region.

“Iran is ready to tap into all its potential as well as the potentialities of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in cooperation with Turkey. It is also necessary that Muslim countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) become more active in this regard,” Rouhani pointed out.

The Turkish premier, for his part, stressed the importance of strengthening unity in the Muslim world and said his country is ready to cooperate to help stop intolerable oppression against Palestinians.

Iran and Turkey can draw a joint plan and work together in that regard, Erdogan said.

At least 122 Palestinians have so far been killed since Israel began pounding targets in the Gaza Strip earlier this week.
