The spike in coronavirus cases in Italy prompted the country’s Giorgio Armani brand to move a fashion show behind closed doors on Sunday. Spectators could only watch the fall and winter 2020-2021 womenswear presentation in Milan in a live stream.
“This is a preventative measure decided by Mr Armani to support national efforts in safeguarding public health,” the company wrote on Twitter.
Milan, Italy’s business and fashion hub, is close to a cluster of coronavirus cases that has significantly expanded since Friday. Whereas Italy had only three confirmed cases of the virus last week, it now has confirmed more than 200 cases and five deaths.
Milan is not the only fashion city to be impacted by the coronavirus. Previously, China’s Shanghai Fashion Week — expected to commence in March — was postponed.
