A round table seminar hosted by the University of Bordeaux in France was held yesterday on confronting extremist ideologies and counter-terrorism.
The seminar discussed the importance of intellectualism in confronting extremism and terrorism, and the role of intellectuals in combatting the spread of extremism with moderate ideas, as well as the support they require. It saw the participation of leading intellectuals, academics and experts, including Dr. Jamal Sanad Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research, ECSSR.
The seminar, which was presented by Dr. Nidal Choukair, President of the Association of European Press for the Arab World, APEMA, discussed the role of intellectuals in combatting extremism while its participants stated that eliminating this phenomenon is everyone’s responsibility, and intellectuals must counter the arguments of extremists with logic and intellect. They also highlighted the necessity of creating a comprehensive policy that addresses the roots of extremism.
The seminar also witnessed a discussion on the book, “The Mirage,” by Dr. Jamal Al Suwaidi, which addresses the issue of political and religious groups and calls for reasserting the role of the mind, diligence, thinking and reflection.
