Deputy FM: Release of kidnapped Iranian diplomat in Yemen not confirmed

THE LEVANT – Deputy Foreign Minister in Arab and North African Affairs denied reports on release of kidnapped Iranian diplomat Ahmad Nikbakht in Yemen.

Hussein Amir Abdullahian told IRNA on Wednesday evening that Nikbakht is in good health condition, but news concerning his release by Yemeni officials is not confirmed.

He also added that news about arrest or release of two other Iranian diplomats is not correct.

Ahmad Nikbakht, who worked in administrative sector of Iran’s embassy in Yemen, was kidnapped by unknown armed people on July 21, 2013.

A joint committee has been formed by Iran and Yemen to release the kidnapped diplomat.
