Erdogan ends US visit early over perceived Muhammed Ali funeral snub

The Levant News — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is shortening his two-day visit to Louisville, Kentucky, for Muhammad Ali’s burial and is returning to Turkey without attending the boxing great’s burial ceremony. Turkish social media and the mainstream daily Hurriyet report that Erdogan was angered when he wasn’t allowed to place a piece of cloth from the Kaaba on Ali’s coffin. Erdogan was also upset that his request for the head of Turkey’s Religious Affair Department, Mehmet Gomez, to recite the Quran at the burial was rejected.
