Emirates’ US flights will be subject to further security screening

Emirates airline confirmed on Wednesday that passengers on board its flights to the US will be subject to further security screening from Thursday to comply with American government requirements.

An Emirates spokesperson told Gulf News that the enhanced security screening, which follows new guidelines received from the US government, could include interviews with passengers.

“The new directive requires passenger pre-screening interviews at the check-in counter for originating passengers, and at the boarding gate for transfer and transit passengers. These measures will work in complement with the current additional screenings measures conducted at the boarding gate (including those for electronic devices),” the spokesperson said.

Emirates urged its passengers flying to the US from Dubai International to allow additional time at the airport to be checked in and boarded.

A Reuters report on Wednesday morning said new security measures including stricter passenger screening will take effect on Thursday on all US-bound flights from around the world. This is to comply with government requirements designed to avoid an in-cabin ban on laptops, Reuters reported.
