H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, made telephone calls with three ERC fields operating in three East African countries struck by Tropical Cyclone Idai.
During the calls, Sheikh Hamdan was assured about the progress of relief operations launched by the ERC towards the cyclone-affected people in Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi and their humanitarian conditions.
Sheikh Hamdan directed the ERC relief team to provide the best services and needs.
Acting upon the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the ERC is implementing massive relief programmes, including emergency relief assistance worth AED18.3 million to the three African countries. Relief items, which include foodstuff, dietary supplements, medicines and medical supplies and sheltering equipment can benefit up to 600,000 people.
The ERC said that its relief operations in these countries fall within the UAE’s humanitarian and developmental efforts on the international humanitarian scene without distinction to any non-humanitarian considerations.
Tropical cyclone Idai has hit South East Africa, destroying homes, schools, businesses and essential infrastructure.
