THE LEVANT NEWS — The Lebanese military court Tuesday postponed to April 24 the trial of notorious Salafist preacher Ahmad Assir to give his lawyers time to prepare a defense.
A judicial source told The Daily Star that Military Court chief Brig. Gen. Khalil Ibrahim announced the trial delay after he turned down the attorney’s request seeking Dar al-Fatwa’s permission to interrogate Assir in his capacity as a sheikh.
Dar al-Fatwa is the seat of the Sunni Mufti in Lebanon.
The source said Ibrahim also decided to split the single case into two separate cases.
