AP journalist arrested for covering West Bank clashes

THE LEVANT – Several demonstrations took place today all over the West Bank and in Jerusalem to support the Palestinian resistance and in solidarity with Gaza.

In Hebron, the march started right after Friday Prayers and shortly afterwards the protesters clashed with the Israeli Occupation Forces. At the moment of writing at least 24 Palestinians have been injured by the Israeli army, 10 of them with live ammunition. Confrontations are still ongoing in Bab al-Zawyah, in the center of Hebron.

The IOF fired rubber bullets towards the cameraman of the al-Mayadeen TV channel. They also arrested Iyad Hamad, a cameraman from Associated Press. Eyewitnesses report that Iyad was arrested in Shuhada Street while he was covering the march in solidarity with Gaza. He was assaulted by Israeli soldiers, handcuffed and taken away.

In Bethlehem there are also clashes at the moment and over 20 Palestinians have been injured this afternoon. In Aida refugee camp, north of Bethlehem, the army has invaded the camp and is shooting tear gas and rubber bullets at the protesters. Clashes have been ongoing for two hours.

Local sources report that the IOF is preparing to spray the streets of Aida camp with ‘skunk’ water.
